The former white tannery and later part of a brewery was built by master carpenter Martin Lange in 1683 directly on the Stiefelgraben. The building was subsequently remodelled and extended many times. Many of the houses in the former Wordgasse opposite were demolished when Carl-Ritter-Straße was built in the 1950s. The house is therefore a special gem with its recognisable, eventful history.
The building is located in the centre of Quedlinburg's historic town centre. There is an organic food shop on the ground floor of the building. The three holiday flats above are accessed via a separate entrance.
The current owners acquired the house in 2003 and the condition of the building made a thorough renovation necessary in order to save the historic building.
Further information about the history of the house can be found in the holiday flat.
The front room of the holiday flat overlooks the Schlossberg. Anna Amalia (1739 - 1807), the namesake and sister of Frederick the Great of Prussia, also resided there when she was abbess in Quedlinburg.

The aim of the planning by the architectural firm QuArK was to preserve as much of the old building fabric as possible. As far as possible, historical building materials were salvaged and reused during excavation work. For example, baroque floor tiles, historic window panes and clay tiles in the ceilings and clay infill in the walls were reused in many places. Most of the interior doors are refurbished original doors.
In the "Anna Amalia" flat, the renovation of which was completed in 2004, some fixtures had to be removed. Due to the necessary renovation of the roof truss, the opportunity was taken to increase the very low room height.
Where the historical substance was destroyed, the existing structure was supplemented by inserting new elements that are clearly recognisable as such.
During the refurbishment, great importance was attached to the use of healthy building materials. These are often historically proven and lead to a pleasant living climate. These include clay and wood in particular. The new interior walls were made of clay bricks. The interior insulation of the outer skin was carried out using mineral light clay.

The two buildings in which the holiday flats are located are centrally situated in the historic town centre of Quedlinburg. They have been renovated with great attention to detail in accordance with the preservation of historical monuments and healthy living standards.
Materials that generate an electrostatic charge were avoided and radiant heaters were installed. This leads to less air pollution from dust particles and a greater sense of well-being for the residents. Many guests have already reported that allergy sufferers were able to breathe freely and were free of irritation.
We use fragrance-free detergents.
Bed linen for allergy sufferers can be provided on request.
